Everton have submitted an appeal against the club’s 10-point deduction in the Premier League, given to the club for breaching the division’s profit and sustainability rules.
The Toffees were handed the 10-point sanction last month after being deemed guilty of failing to comply with the Premier League’s financial rules, a punishment which has seen Sean Dyche’s side drop into the relegation places.
Everton called the sanctions ‘wholly disproportionate’ and ‘unjust’ during the club’s initial statement and the Merseyside club have now confirmed their appeal against the deduction.
A club statement read: “Everton Football Club has today lodged with the chair of the Premier League’s judicial panel its appeal of the decision by a Premier League commission to impose a 10-point deduction on the club. An appeal board will now be appointed to hear the case.”
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s trip to Nottingham Forest, Sean Dyche said his side were focused on football.
“The recent facts on what’s happened are facts at this time,” Dyche said in his pre-match press conference.
“We have to park that and move forwards. We’re not going to start worrying about ifs, buts and maybes. The 10 points are currently not there, so basically, we have to see through the rest of it and crack on.
“The biggest thing for me is that it doesn’t change the facts of the matter. When I got here, we had to win more games. That was quite obvious and that doesn’t change – regardless of all the ups and downs and what goes on. I’ve clearly spoken to the players about that, and we’ve agreed. [Winning games] has to be the focus. It always was and it always will be.
“At the minute, it’s about staying steadfast to what we do and staying steadfast to the idea that we have to focus on winning games. I’ve never come away from that and I’ve never taken the players’ eyes away from that. I think that’s going to be the key for us: remain true to what we’re doing on the training pitch; take that into games and deliver performances.”
