Guardiola impressed by Postecoglou impact at Spurs

Pep Guardiola says he has been impressed by the impact of Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham, as Manchester City face the north Londoners this weekend.

Postecoglou was named as the Premier League’s Manager of the Month for August, September and October, following a flying start at Spurs after his arrival from Celtic. Spurs have since dropped to fifth after three consecutive losses, with injury problems having impacted the squad.

Postecoglou, who previously coached Japanese side Yokohama F. Marinos under the City Football Group umbrella, has earned admiration from Guardiola for his swift adaption to the Premier League.

Speaking ahead of this week’s meeting with the Australian, Man City boss Guardiola said Postecoglou’s style is already evident in a new look Spurs side.

“He is already there, in a short time. Even in the games they didn’t win lately,” Guardiola said at his pre-match press conference.

“I am impressed at many things they do – the chances they create, aggression in all departments. He came here with nothing and within a few months already you can recognise Spurs as his team.

“Every team that plays with desire and determination comes from the manager. He has done this in the past in Japan and in Glasgow with Celtic.

“He makes football a better place – a person like Ange. I enjoy watching them play and the approach they have. The impact he has made has been quick and really good.”
