Foden hails Man City teammate as ‘best player in the Premier League’

Phil Foden has hailed Kevin De Bruyne as the best player in the Premier League as the duo combined during Manchester City’s 4-0 win at Brighton.

De Bruyne opened the scoring with a brilliant first headed goal in the Premier League as the champions upped the pressure on title rivals Arsenal.

Foden doubled the advantage as his free-kick deflected in off Pascal Gross, before the England international made it three in a ruthless first-half performance.

City caught the Seagulls in possession as Roberto De Zerbi’s side tried to play from the back and Foden swept a finish into the far corner. Julian Alvarez added a fourth for the Citizens, who close the gap on Arsenal to one point, and Foden was full of praise for the performance of De Bruyne at full-time.

“Playing with the best players in the world like Kev definitely helps my game,” Foden said.

“When he’s at it he’s the best player in the Premier League. To be playing with him in midfield it helps my game.

“He sees passes other players don’t. Sometimes you just have to run into the space and he’s going to find you.

“It’s nice I’m playing inside with him now and hopefully I can keep playing with him because it’s good for the team.

“We just want to win game by game to get to the title.”

Manchester City will be crowned champions for a sixth time in seven seasons if the club can win their final five games and next visit Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

Foden is taking nothing for granted, however, and said the 4-0 win at Brighton did not reflect a tough game for his side.

“They’re a very challenging team,” he said when discussing Brighton.

“They like to go man to man, they play beautiful football.

“But I thought with Kev’s first goal and a bit of luck with my goal, it settled us a little bit.

“We grew into the game and found where the space was.

“I thought in the first half we were frightening with the way we attacked.”
