Man Utd knock back Lindelof approaches

Manchester United have turned down approaches for Victor Lindelof this month with the club keen to keep the defender at Old Trafford.

Lindelof has struggled for regular first-team football this season and has started just four Premier League games following the summer arrival of Lisandro Martinez.

The 28-year-old started the weekend win over Reading in the FA Cup’s fourth round but has made just one league appearance since the Premier League’s restart, with Luke Shaw preferred in an unfamiliar centre-back role in recent fixtures.

Atletico Madrid made an approach for the Sweden centre-back earlier in the January transfer window and Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Inter Milan have also had an offer knocked back.

The Italian side view Lindelof as a potential replacement for Milan Skriniar, who is set to sign for Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer at the end of the season.

United are still competing on four fronts this season and Erik ten Hag wants to ensure he retains depth in his options, with the Red Devils refusing both loan and permanent offers for Lindelof this month.

Ten Hag’s side progressed in the FA Cup at the weekend and next face Nottingham Forest in the return leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Tuesday evening. The club also face a two-legged Europa League tie with Barcelona later this month.
