Pochettino is Man Utd’s ‘first choice’ to replace Solskjaer

Mauricio Pochettino remains Manchester United’s ‘first choice’ to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should a decision be made to sack the under-pressure manager.

Pochettino has been a previous target for the club’s hierarchy and retains admirers amongst the Red Devils’ board, though the Argentine is currently under contract at Paris Saint-Germain with United facing a lack of available candidates to replace Solskjaer.

Pochettino impressed during his previous spell in the Premier League, winning admirers for his front-footed style of football during five-and-a-half seasons at Tottenham, guiding the club to the Champions League final during his final full season in charge.

Solskjaer’s position has come under increasing threat following a four-game winless run in the Premier League, the club’s most recent loss a humiliating 5-0 defeat at the hands of arch-rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford.

The Star are reporting that Manchester United’s senior players have contributed towards a decision to persevere with Solskjaer in the immediate future, ahead of a defining run of games that sees the Red Devils face Tottenham, Atalanta and Manchester City in their next three fixtures.

The lack of potential successors to Solskjaer is also believed to be a factor in the Norwegian retaining his position for now, with reports having suggested the club have doubts over the management style of former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte.

Zinedine Zidane is another name who is available and has been linked, though is not understood to be in a rush to return to management after leaving Real Madrid last summer.
