‘Anything can happen’ – Tuchel urges Chelsea to be ‘humble and respectful’ against Malmo

Thomas Tuchel has warned that ‘anything can happen’ and has urged Chelsea to be ‘humble and respectful’ against Malmo this week.

Chelsea travel to face Malmo in the Champions League on Tuesday night, looking to take a step closer to the knockout stages with victory over the Swedish side.

Malmo are currently bottom of the group without a single point or goal scored after three fixtures, but Tuchel has warned his side they must not get complacent against a side beaten 4-0 in the reverse fixture at Stamford Bridge.

“We are in a good place,” Tuchel said at his pre-match press conference. “We know what it takes to have these kind of results, the effort we put into it. At the same time, we set the standards that we set in every match so tomorrow we start again from scratch.

“It’s the fifth or sixth game in a row where we are considered favourites and I like how my team consider these matches. We give a lot of effort and intensity.

“Malmo maybe need an extraordinary performance and they will prepare for this. Any team at this level is able to create an extraordinary performance so we should be prepared, humble and respectful towards the game because anything can happen.”

Tuchel also provided an injury update on his squad ahead of the clash and confirmed that Timo Werner, Romelu Lukaku and Mateo Kovacic all remain absent, whilst Mason Mount is also set to miss the clash through illness.

“For Timo [Werner], Romelu Lukaku] and Kova [Mateo Kovacic] it’s no surprise. Mason [Mount] doesn’t feel better. It’s not Covid he’s just ill.”
