‘Sorry if I show my disappointment’ – Conte discusses controversial comments after Burnley defeat

Antonio Conte has discussed his controversial comments following Tottenham’s defeat to Burnley.

Conte caused a stir following his post-match reaction to Spurs’ 1-0 loss at Burnley in midweek, the north London side’s fourth defeat in five Premier League fixtures.

The 52-year-old suggested he would be open to leaving the club should results not improved, claiming there would be an ‘assessment’ from the board over his performances since arriving as manager in November.

The Italian also aimed a dig in the direction of his players following the club’s latest loss, one which leaves Spurs eighth and seven points adrift of the top four at present.

Spurs face Leeds in the Premier League this weekend and ahead of the clash Conte has discussed his comments, admitting he is a coach unable to hide his emotions amid a run of poor results.

“My mentality is to prepare myself, to prepare the players and to avoid this type of situation,” Conte told his pre-match press conference.

”There are many coaches that don’t suffer. I wanted to be a little soft but at the same time to be this way makes me a person that in (my) career I won as a player and then as a coach.

“For sure when I lose, if you expect that I am happy or to come to a press conference and laugh, I am not this person. I am sorry if I show my disappointment because maybe it would be good to keep this inside and not show.”

Conte opened up on his discussions with chairman Daniel Levy this week and reiterated his commitment to the cause despite his outburst after defeat at Turf Moor.

“Yes I spoke to Daniel Levy. Our chairman knows very well that I’m here to help the club in every moment. I will do that until the end. That’s the reality and he knows that we’re working hard. He has great consideration about our job and the job of my staff.

“I repeat, I want to help the club with every aspect. He shows me great consideration every day and for this reason I’m committed for this club much more because I know the consideration for me is very high.”
