Ten Hag the ‘clear favourite’ for Man Utd job, but club planning more talks after Poch interviewed ‘earlier this week’

Erik ten Hag remains the ‘clear favourite’ to become Manchester United’s next manager, though the club are planning further talks with rival candidates.

Ten Hag has emerged as the frontrunner for the role and the Ajax manager impressed during an interview with the Premier League side last week, though the Red Devils are keen to assess all of their potential options before making a decision.

The Mirror are reporting that Mauricio Pochettino was also interviewed ‘earlier this week’, while discussions will be held with Luis Enrique next week, despite his insistence that he will remain with Spain until after the Qatar World Cup which begins in November.

According to the Telegraph, Ten Hag is the ‘clear favourite’ to be named as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s permanent successor and United are planning a second round of interviews before making a final decision on their appointment.

Ten Hag will have just a year remaining on his contract at Ajax this summer and the Dutch side – despite a desire to keep the 52-year-old for a further season – have been open to negotiations, with the two clubs possessing a strong working relationship given the presence of former United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar as chief executive in Amsterdam.

A potential pursuit of Pochettino will be made easier by Paris Saint-Germain’s stance, who are not anticipated to demand compensation should he leave the club this summer.

PSG are prepared to allow Pochettino to leave following another Champions League failure this season, regardless of whether he is offered the role at Old Trafford.

An approach from United would save PSG the £20m compensation the former Tottenham boss and his coaching staff would be due should he be sacked.
