Saka opens up on prospect of new Arsenal contract

Bukayo Saka has opened up on the prospect of a new contract at Arsenal and is confident a new deal will be agreed.

Saka is into the final two years of his current contract at Arsenal and the north Londoners want to tie the academy graduate down to a new long-term deal.

The 20-year-old has emerged as a key figure for the Gunners in recent campaigns and has scored 23 goals in 135 appearances since progressing from the club’s ranks.

Mikel Arteta spoke on contract talks with Saka last week and expressed a confidence that an agreement would be reached.

“I’m very confident that we as a club, Bukayo, his family, his agent, everybody, we are very much aligned with what we want to achieve,” he said. “Now it’s about putting it on a piece of paper.

“I would like that to get done because I don’t want the player or anybody to be distracted while we are in the middle of the season, but those things take time.”

Saka has now opened up on his future and revealed he shares Arteta’s confidence that a new deal will be agreed, admitting he feels both ‘at home’ and ‘loved’ at the Emirates.

“Yes, I share his confidence,” said Saka.

“I feel like the manager’s always there for me,” he added. “He knows when to speak to me, it’s not too much but it’s not too little and the different bits of advice he gives me are special and it makes such a difference.

“I really feel at home here. I really feel the love from my team-mates, my coaches and the fans as well. I really feel loved here.”
