Potter says Jorginho’s move to Arsenal a ‘win, win’

Graham Potter says Jorginho’s move from Chelsea to Arsenal is a ‘win, win, win’ for both clubs and the midfielder.

Chelsea sanctioned the sale of Jorginho on deadline day with the 31-year-old crossing the capital to sign for London rivals Arsenal in a £12m deal.

The Italy international had entered the final six months of his contract at Chelsea and was not expected to be offered a new deal at Stamford Bridge.

Potter believes the sale of Jorginho is a deal that can benefit both clubs, with Arsenal having added to their midfield options to boost the club’s title charge and Chelsea having brought in funds for a player out of contract at the end of the season.

“For the four months I’ve worked with him he’s been fantastic,” Potter said at his pre-match press conference ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Fulham.

“He’s a great person; his service to this club has been brilliant, what he’s achieved. You have to look at these things with the players’ contract and the opportunity he had to secure something more stable for his family. It was a win, win, win’. I wish him well.”

Potter provided an update on the fitness of his squad ahead of Friday’s west London derby and confirmed that Ben Chilwell, Reece James, Raheem Sterling and Ruben Loftus-Cheek will all return to the squad.

“Ben Chilwell, Reece James, Raheem Sterling and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are back in the squad. They won’t play 90 minutes. Wesley [Fofana] has been training partly with the team. He’ll be stepping it up next week.

“We are still without Denis [Zakaria], Christian Pulisic, Mateo Kovacic, [N’Golo] Kante and [Armando] Broja.”
