Arsenal in negotiations with Tielemans over summer move

Arsenal are in negotiations with Youri Tielemans over a deal to sign the Leicester midfielder on a free transfer this summer.

Tielemans is out of contract at the end of the season and is set to leave Leicester when his deal expires, with a number of clubs understood to be interested in the free agent.

Liverpool and Newcastle have also been linked with the Belgium international, though TEAMtalk are reporting that Arsenal have began negotiations with Tielemans’ team over a move to the Emirates.

Mikel Arteta wants to add to his midfield options during the summer transfer window, but Tielemans’ wage demands have reportedly complicated negotiations with interested sides.

The 25-year-old is said to have demanded a deal that would place him among Arsenal’s highest earners and the Gunners could ‘back away’ from the deal if a compromise is not found.

Clubs in Spain and Italy are also monitoring Tielemans, who has been a key figure in Leicester’s recent successes.

The midfielder has made 187 appearances in all competitions for the Foxes and scored the winning goal as Leicester beat Chelsea to win the FA Cup in 2021. However, Leicester have struggled this season and are in the process of appointing a new manager after Brendan Rodgers left the club by mutual consent on Sunday.
