Chelsea are ‘considering’ appointing former manager Frank Lampard as the club’s interim head coach until the end of the season.
Chelsea are assessing managerial candidates following the decision to sack Graham Potter last weekend, with the ex-Brighton boss dismissed after less than seven months in charge at Stamford Bridge.
Lampard was in attendance to watch Chelsea’s goalless draw with Liverpool on Wednesday evening and The Sun are reporting that Todd Boehly could turn to the club great on a caretaker basis.
The 44-year-old has been out of work since leaving Everton in January and previously spent 18 months as manager at Chelsea, between 2019 and 2021. Lampard has experience of both the club and Premier League management and could prove a short-term solution for the west Londoners.
Among the names under consideration to become Chelsea’s next coach include Julian Nagelsmann, but the Blues would need to agree a compensation fee with Bayern Munich for the German after he was placed on gardening leave.
Luis Enrique and Mauricio Pochettino have been named as candidates and are available, but could be reluctant to step into the role mid-season.
Potter’s assistant, Bruno Saltor, took charge of Chelsea’s draw with Liverpool but has no previous managerial experience. Chelsea face Wolves in the Premier League this weekend before the first leg of the club’s Champions League quarter-final with Real Madrid on April 12.
