Liverpool will move on to other midfield targets this summer after Wolves removed a clause in Matheus Nunes’ contract.
Jurgen Klopp is an admirer of the midfielder and had been interested in signing Nunes this summer, whose deal contained a clause that would have allowed him to leave Wolves for a fee of £44m.
However, the Telegraph are reporting that Wolves have removed the clause and are free to set their asking price for the Portugal international, who is believed to be valued in excess of £50m at Molineux.
Nunes signed for Wolves in a club-record £38m deal from Sporting Lisbon last summer but has underwhelmed during his debut season in the Premier League. The midfielder has failed to score and has provided just a single assist in 26 league appearances.
Relegation for Wolves could lead to Liverpool making an approach for Nunes at a reduced fee, but the indications are that the Reds will ‘move on’ to alternatives that could include Chelsea’s Mason Mount and Brighton’s Moises Caicedo.
Jude Bellingham is understood to remain Liverpool’s leading target for the summer window as the Reds compete with Real Madrid and Manchester City to sign the Borussia Dortmund teenager.
