Here we go! Lampard set for Chelsea return on short-term deal

Frank Lampard is set to be announced as Chelsea manager on an interim basis until the end of the season.

Lampard will return to Chelsea on a deal that will run until the end of the season, as Chelsea conduct their search for a permanent successor to Graham Potter.

Potter was sacked last weekend after less than seven months in charge and Chelsea have compiled a shortlist of candidates for the role that includes Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique and Antonio Conte.

The west Londoners are keen to conduct a thorough recruitment process and will appoint Lampard as an interim head coach until a decision is made.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that an agreement has been reached between Chelsea and Lampard on a short-term deal.

Lampard – who spent 18 months as Chelsea manager between 2019 and 2021 – has been out of work since leaving Everton in January and was in attendance as Chelsea drew with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday evening.

Ashley Cole, who worked alongside the 44-year-old at Everton, is also set to rejoin the club as part of Lampard’s coaching staff.
