Klopp delighted with Liverpool’s ‘spectacular’ 4-3 win over Spurs

Jurgen Klopp was delighted to see his side snatch an injury-time win as Liverpool edged Tottenham 4-3 in a ‘spectacular’ game at Anfield.

Liverpool looked on course for a comfortable win after racing into a three-goal lead inside a quarter of an hour, with Curtis Jones opening the scoring from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross after three minutes.

Luis Diaz – making his first start since October – then added a second two minutes later, before Mohamed Salah’s penalty put Liverpool into a commanding lead.

Spurs, who conceded five goals inside 21 minutes during last weekend’s defeat at Newcastle, fought back into the game through Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, before Richarlison’s stoppage-time equaliser looked to have rescued an unlikely point for the north Londoners.

Liverpool went up the opposite end in a chaotic game and scored a winner just 99 seconds later however, with Klopp admitting his side ‘got away with it’ after Diogo Jota’s dramatic 94th-minute decider.

“For a long period of the first half it was the best game we had played so far,” Klopp told Sky Sports.

”First half was good, we conceded a goal but it was the first time we didn’t defend properly. Apart from that the first half was good. The problem is Spurs do not change at all, they go for counter attacks even at 3-1 down. They just defend, counter attack and get set pieces and that makes it tricky.

“We got away with it thanks to Diogo Jota, it makes it spectacular and everybody goes home buzzing, but I am the manager of the team so I have to mention everything else as well. In 3 days’ time we have to do better.

“They had a defensive set up, but the way we started the game was brilliant, everything was there. It was nearly perfect but it seemed to lead us on the wrong path.”
