Timber to Arsenal transfer at ‘final stages’

Arsenal’s move for Jurrien Timber is at the ‘final stages’ with the Gunners closing in on a deal for the Ajax defender.

Arsenal have submitted a second offer for Timber after the club’s opening proposal was turned down last week, with the improved bid worth around €45m (£38m).

The Netherlands international is keen on the move to the Premier League and Fabrizio Romano is reporting that negotiations between Arsenal and Ajax are at the final stages.

No medical has been scheduled for the 22-year-old as the two clubs discuss the final details of a deal, but it is expected that a full agreement will be reached imminently.

Timber could become Arsenal’s second signing of the summer after the arrival of Kai Havertz from Chelsea, while the Gunners have also agreed a £105m club-record deal to sign Declan Rice from West Ham.

Timber will improve the club’s defensive options after impressing since progressing from the academy ranks at Ajax, where he has made 121 appearances in all competitions for the Dutch side.

The centre-back was named as the Eredivisie Player of the Year during Ajax’s title-winning season in 2021/22.
