Bayern set for ‘crucial’ meeting in Harry Kane pursuit

Bayern Munich are set to hold ‘crucial’ talks with Tottenham to discuss a deal for Harry Kane and are prepared to increase their offer to sign the forward.

Bayern have seen two bids rejected for the England captain, but remain confident of reaching an agreement with Spurs to sign Kane.

The 30-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his deal in north London and is open to a move to the Bundesliga champions, who have made Kane their leading transfer target.

Spurs rejected a second proposal worth €80m (£68.5m) for Kane earlier this month, but Fabrizio Romano is reporting that the Germans are preparing to improve that offer ahead of a ‘crucial’ meeting between Bayern officials and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy in London.

Kane will not push for an exit from Spurs, though has shown no indication that he is willing to extend his deal which expires next summer. Spurs run the risk of losing the club’s all-time record goalscorer on a free transfer should a sale not be agreed, while the prospect of free agency could also see Kane sign for a Premier League rival. Manchester United were linked with a move for Kane earlier in the transfer window.

Kane – who scored 30 goals in the Premier League last season – has failed to win silverware in his career to date despite a wealth of individual accolades and a move to Bayern would increase his chances of winning elusive team honours.

Bayern were crowned champions in Germany for an 11th straight season last term and will start the new season among the favourites for Champions League success.

The Bavarians view Kane as the ideal option to replace the goalscoring void left by Robert Lewandowski’s sale to Barcelona last summer, while the Germans have agreed the £24m sale of Sadio Mane to Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr in preparation for the arrival of a new forward.
