Onana insists he will ‘demand a lot’ from Man United team-mates

Andre Onana has said that he will ‘demand a lot’ from his team-mates as the goalkeeper prepares for his first season at Manchester United.

Onana has signed for the Red Devils in a £47.2 million deal from Inter Milan and has made his first appearances for the club during United’s pre-season tour of the United States.

The 27-year-old – who played under Erik ten Hag at Ajax – impressed as Inter reached the Champions League final last season and led the tournament for clean sheets.

Onana has wasted little time in introducing himself to his new team-mates and berated Harry Maguire after a poor pass to Christian Eriksen gifted Borussia Dortmund a chance during the club’s friendly defeat to the German side.

The Cameroon international has opened up on his determination to be successful and insists he will demand high standards from his defence this season.

“I demand a lot of my team-mates because also they demand a lot, they trust in me,” he told MUTV.

‘”They play a lot of balls back to me, so I have to give them confidence and I want my players to give them to me to give me confidence.

‘”I demand [from] them a lot and I will demand from them a lot because they are great players. Now, for me, it’s a big honour to play with these defenders.

‘”With [Lisandro] Martinez, Harry [Maguire] they are doing great things. They are important players for the club. I’m very happy to be part of this team and playing with them is something great.’’
