Pochettino admits he has missed the Premier League

Mauricio Pochettino admits he has missed the Premier League and has called the division ‘the best league in the world’.

Pochettino returned to English football this summer after being appointed as the new head coach of Chelsea and will take charge of his first game when the west Londoners face Liverpool in their season opener on Sunday.

The Argentine previously had successful spells in charge of Southampton and Tottenham and has been tasked with reviving Chelsea’s fortunes after the club’s lowest league finish since 1993/94 last season.

Pochettino expressed his excitement at returning to the Premier League and praised the competitiveness of English football across all levels.

“I miss you all because I always had a good relationship with the media. Sometimes you are not so nice but you are very respectful with our job,” Pochettino said at his pre-match press conference.

“I miss the Premier League, every single week is competitive, every single game, even when you play the cups. It is really, really competitive when you play League One, League Two or Championship teams.

“When you go away from this environment you feel a little bit lost because football here is amazing and how football and you the media translate to the fans, it is the best league in the world.”
