Endo reacts after securing ‘dream’ move to Liverpool

Wataru Endo has called his move to Liverpool a ‘dream come true’ after the midfielder completed a transfer to Anfield.

Liverpool have secured the signing of the 30-year-old from Stuttgart for a fee in the region of €19m, with the Reds having been keen to add reinforcements in defensive midfield.

Endo – who captains the Japan national team – impressed across four seasons with the German side, leading the Bundesliga for aerial duels won (219), clearances (175) and headed clearances (105) across the last three seasons and ranking second for tackles won. The midfielder has expressed his delight at realising a ‘dream’ in moving to the Premier League.

“I’m very happy right now and I’m so excited to join a big club in Liverpool,” he told the club’s official website.

“It feels amazing and this is my dream. It’s always [been] a dream to play [in the] Premier League and with one of the biggest clubs in the world. It’s a dream come true for me.”

Endo has inherited the number three shirt vacated following Fabinho’s exit and has outlined what the Liverpool fans can expect from him this season.

“It’s going to be the first time for me that I play at Anfield. I can’t wait to play at Anfield in front of Liverpool fans.

“I play as a No.6 and I’m like a bit more [of a] defensive player. I think I can help this club defensively and I will have good organisation in the middle. I think that’s my job.

“I am very excited to join this club and I am looking forward to seeing you at Anfield!”
