Chelsea are set to open talks with Manchester City over a deal to sign versatile forward Cole Palmer.
Mauricio Pochettino wants to add another option to his forward line before the transfer deadline and is interested in a deal to bring Palmer to Stamford Bridge.
The 21-year-old has been linked with an exit from Manchester City after struggling for regular minutes last season, with Palmer starting just two Premier League games for Pep Guardiola’s side – each of which came after City had wrapped up the title – in 2022/23.
Palmer has made an impressive start to the current campaign and scored in both the Community Shield and UEFA Super Cup for the Cityzens, but continues to be linked with leaving in search of a more prominent role.
Brighton, West Ham and Burnley have all been credited with interest, but Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Chelsea have now entered the race.
City’s position on Palmer’s future is unclear following the arrival of Jeremy Doku from Rennes, but Chelsea are said to ‘really want’ the forward and are keen to agree a deal.
Palmer impressed as England’s u21 side won the European Championship during the summer, with his free-kick deflecting in off teammate Curtis Jones during the final win over Spain.
