Postecoglou says Spurs squad ’embracing’ his methods

Ange Postecoglou says Spurs are embracing his methods after an unbeaten start to the Premier League season.

Spurs twice came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw at Arsenal in the north London derby last weekend, a result which leaves Postecoglou’s side fourth in the Premier League table.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of this weekend’s clash with Liverpool, Postecoglou said he has been pleased with how the players have responded to his methods since taking charge during the summer

“The players are the ones embracing what we are doing. It wasn’t euphoric in the dressing room; we knew it would be tough. Arsenal are going to be a force but we held out own and the lads were disappointed they couldn’t finish it off.

“That is a good indicator of where they are at.”

Postecoglou was full of praise for this weekend’s opponents, who sit second in the table and are also unbeaten to date. The Australian praised Jurgen Klopp and believes the Liverpool boss has taken intensity to ‘another level’ during his time at Anfield.

“I think from when Jurgen [Klopp] came, the tempo and intensity was another level. The Premier League has always been an intense league but he took it to another level.”

Postecoglou grew up a Liverpool fan in his native Australia, but the 58-year-old was keen to shut down any suggestions of torn loyalties this weekend.

“It was the 70s so you could have gone one or two ways as they only used to show Liverpool or Man Utd back then. I had a couple of mates went the United way and I went with Liverpool to make it interesting.

“Look I used to love Happy Days back then but I don’t have posters of The Fonz on my wall now.”
