Smith Rowe to consider January Arsenal exit

Emile Smith Rowe will consider leaving Arsenal in the January transfer window if he is unable to earn a regular role in Mikel Arteta’s side.

Smith Rowe has made just one substitute appearance in the Premier League this season, having lost his place in the side during an injury-impacted 2022/23 campaign.

The midfielder has not started a Premier League fixture for Arsenal since May 2022 and is understood to be prepared to leave the north Londoners should his role not change.

90min are reporting that the 23-year-old has ambitions of making the England squad for next summer’s European Championship and will look to secure regular first-team football elsewhere in January if his minutes do not increase.

Smith Rowe is unlikely to be short of suitors should he push for an exit from Arsenal, having broken into the England squad during a 2021/22 season that saw the midfielder score 10 Premier League goals and earn nomination for the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

Aston Villa are said to be long-term admirers of Smith Rowe, who featured as England’s u-21 side won the European Championship during the summer, while Brighton and Newcastle are also keeping an eye on his situation at the Emirates.

Smith Rowe faces competition from Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard, Kai Havertz and Fabio Vieira for a place in the Arsenal side and the Gunners could be open to sanctioning a loan move for the midfielder.
