Jota dedicates Liverpool win to Luis Diaz

Diogo Jota dedicated Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest to teammate Luis Diaz, as the Reds moved within three points of leaders Tottenham.

Jota scored the opening goal as Liverpool cruised to a comfortable win at Anfield, with the Portugal international turning home a rebound after Darwin Nunez’s effort was parried into his path. Nunez turned in a second goal from close range, before Mohamed Salah wrapped up the win for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Jota’s goal was his 50th in the Premier League and the forward was keen to dedicate that moment – and a positive result to Liverpool – to teammate Luis Diaz, who missed the clash after the news broke that the winger’s parents had been kidnapped in Colombia.

“It’s always nice to score goals and obviously for me it’s really important. Especially today as well for Lucho. I was quite feeling that I was going to score; I actually played instead of him,” Jota told the club’s website.

“We are all with him and it was an important moment for me, but for him as well. We’re all with him and I think it was a nice occasion to show him that.

“It’s a situation we can’t even imagine if we [have not gone] through that same situation. All we can say is we are here for him and hopefully the things work out well in the end.”

The win continued a strong start to the season for the Reds and Jota opened up on how a ‘different’ Liverpool side were developing.

“A different Liverpool, like the manager has been saying as well, it’s like 2.0. Different players, different system, different way to play. We are just trying to do our best and things are working well for us. As long as that happens, everyone will be happy.”
