Jesus targeting Champions League success after Arsenal thrash Lens

Gabriel Jesus says he wants to win the Champions League with Arsenal after the north Londoners thrashed Lens 6-0 to reach the knockout rounds.

Arsenal confirmed their place in the last 16 as group winners after a sparkling performance at the Emirates, as the Gunners became the first English side to lead a Champions League game 5-0 at half-time.

Jesus set up Kai Havertz to open the scoring, before firing home a superb second for Mikel Arteta’s side. Bukayo Saka scored the third and Gabriel Martinelli curled in a fourth goal for Arsenal to establish a four-goal lead inside half an hour.

Martin Odegaard made it five before the half-time break with a fine volley, before Jorginho’s second-half penalty completed the rout of the French side.

Arsenal had been beaten at Lens earlier in the group, but turned on a scintillating showing to dismantle their Ligue 1 opposition.

Jesus praised an ‘amazing’ Arsenal performance and talked up his ambitions of winning the Champions League with the Gunners.

“We were amazing. Everyone was focused,’ the Brazilian told TNT Sports.

“We controlled the game. They tried to come in the second half. At the end everyone played amazing. The team performance was top. We have to keep going.

“Playing at home, we know our support is amazing. They push us. We want to win the game and qualify. Congratulations to the whole team.

“We didn’t concede a goal. We kept a clean sheet and then we scored in the last minutes.

“I watch the Champions League a lot at home. I love football. The Champions League is special, like the Premier League. I already won the Premier League, I want to win here, but I want to win the Champions League as well.”
