Manchester City injury news with Kovacic back

The Premier League champions are fresh from securing qualification to the Champions League round of 16 as group winners, with a 3-2 comeback win over RB Leipzig.

However, Manchester City have experienced an unusual lull in the Premier League, taking two points from the last six available, and will welcome Tottenham Hotspur to the Etihad this weekend.

Manchester City injury news:

Matheus Nunes

City’s summer signing withdrew from international duty during the latest break, due to a suspected muscular injury.

A statement from the Portuguese FA read: “The midfielder is unfit for Portugal’s two games. Matheus Nunes was declared clinically unfit for games against Liechtenstein and Iceland after undergoing tests.”

In his pre-match press conference, Pep Guardiola stated that Nunes is in the “last days” of his recovery, and it will be tight as to whether the £53 million signing will be available for Sunday’s match.

Mateo Kovacic

The Croatian also withdrew from international duty, and like Nunes, didn’t make the squads for both the Liverpool and RB Leipzig matches.

A quad strain has effected the midfielder, who swapped London for Manchester in the summer, but it is thought that the 29-year-old will be available for selection, with Guardiola stating that Kovacic is “back, training well.”

Kevin De Bruyne

De Bruyne has been sidelined since August due to a hamstring problem, which subsequently required surgery.

The Belgium international will not be back until at least early 2024.
