Pochettino on Liverpool loss: ‘We lost every single duel!’

Mauricio Pochettino has criticised the performance from his team after Chelsea were well beaten at Liverpool on Wednesday night.

Chelsea’s recent upturn in results came crashing to an end as the West Londoners lost 4-1 on a disappointing night at Liverpool.

Chelsea had two good shouts for a penalty turned down by the officials, though Pochettino was keen to reflect on a poor performance from his team and not on the referee’s decisions.

The Blues conceded 28 shots on goals, with Liverpool finding the net through Diogo Jota, Conor Bradley, Dominik Szoboszlai and Luis Diaz. It could have been worse for Chelsea, had Darwin Nunez not crashed a penalty against the post and hit the woodwork on three other occasions.

“It’s so clear they were much better than us. We lost every single duel,” Pochettino said to TNT Sports.

“Every time we recovered the ball after one or two touches we lost it.”

On the two penalty appeals, he added: “It was bad luck for us but that doesn’t change the feeling Liverpool were better than us.

“We move on. That was only one game. We knew Liverpool are one of the best teams. Maybe it was a little bit too much for us.”

Chelsea remain tenth in the Premier League table, ahead of Sunday’s clash with Wolves at Stamford Bridge.
