Mainoo ‘dreaming’ after scoring Man United winner at Wolves

Kobbie Mainoo said he feels like he’s ‘dreaming’ after scoring a superb solo goal to earn Manchester United a 4-3 win at Wolves.

The teenager decided an engrossing game at Molineux as Erik ten Hag’s team edged a seven-goal thriller, producing a moment of magic in stoppage time to earn the three points.

Mainoo has made a major impact since his first Premier League start at Everton in November and continued his impressive emergence with another standout showing at Wolves.

His goal was one of real quality, as the 18-year-old stepped away from two Wolves challenges and bent a brilliant finish into the far corner. Mainoo’s winner, just two minutes after Wolves levelled, ensured the visitors claimed an important win on the road.

“I’ve still not come down from it, I still feel like I’m dreaming to be honest,” the midfielder said to TNT Sports at full-time.

“It’s such a tough place to come, they’ve had a good home run here, so we had to get the win.

“To start playing in the Premier League for my boyhood club has been amazing,” he continued.

“Now [I am] just trying to get a good run of games in, win more games and get real momentum going.”

Ten Hag praised the performance of the academy graduate and said he has been delighted with the progress Mainoo has made since stepping into the first team.

“He is making incredible progress. He has great abilities, he is the modern midfield player,” the Dutchman said at his post-match press conference.

“He can defend and attack but also he has the physicality to do both ways. He is also composed.”
