Arsenal admirers believe Mudryk talent ‘can still be unlocked’

Mykhailo Mudryk retains admirers at Arsenal who believe his talent ‘can still be unlocked’ despite a difficult spell at Chelsea.

Arsenal appeared the frontrunners to sign Mudryk during the 2023 January transfer window and were prepared to break their transfer record to sign the winger in an £86m deal.

However, Chelsea’s superior payment structure saw the west Londoners win the race for Mudryk, who has struggled since leaving Shakhtar Donetsk for the Premier League.

The Athletic have delved into the transfer race between the London rivals and have revealed how Mudryk was left ‘devastated’ at the collapse of a move to Arsenal, with the Gunners having been his preferred destination.

Mudryk, who has started just nine times in the Premier League this season during an ineffective campaign at Chelsea, reportedly retains admirers among the Arsenal board, who believe his talent can still be unlocked in English football.

Arsenal turned their attention to Leandro Trossard after missing out on Mudryk and the Belgian has been a valuable squad player for the north Londoners, scoring eight times and providing 11 assists in just 19 league starts.

Arsenal remain interested in signing an out-and-out winger in the summer to compliment Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, though suggestions of a move for Mudryk have been squashed, with the report stating ‘that ship appears to have sailed’.
