Paul Pogba banned from football for four years

Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba has been banned from football for four years after a doping violation.

The Frenchman has been banned following elevated levels of testosterone, with a B sample having confirmed the violation following an initial failed test. Pogba informed Juventus that he had not knowingly taken the banned substance and blamed the findings on a nutritional supplement.

The former Manchester United star was provisionally suspended following a random drugs test after Juventus’ 3-0 win over Udinese on August 20. Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that Pogba has been suspended for four years from football, leaving his career in doubt.

Pogba will turn 31 next month and will be unable to resume professional football until 2028. The World Cup winner – who became world football’s most expensive player when joining Manchester United in an £89m deal in 2016 – has won 91 caps for the French national team.

Juventus are expected to terminate Pogba’s contract, which runs until 2026. He rejoined the Italian side for a second spell in 2022, but endured an injury-hit return to Turin before his provisional suspension.
