Slot keen on Liverpool job after ‘very positive’ talks

Arne Slot is keen to replace Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager this summer after ‘very positive’ talks with the club.

The Feyenoord manager has emerged as a leading option for Liverpool as the club continue their search for Klopp’s successor, with the latter to step down from his role at Anfield at the end of the campaign.

Xabi Alonso had been installed as the early frontrunner for the position before deciding to commit his future to Bayer Leverkusen, while Sporting Lisbon head coach Ruben Amorim was also named as a leading candidate. However, interest in the latter is said to have cooled.

Slot has won admirers for his work with Feyenoord, who he led to the Eredivisie title last season and to KNBV Cup success earlier in the campaign.

He has won the Rinus Michels’ award as the Eredivisie’s Manager of the Year in each of the last two campaigns and was on Tottenham’s shortlist of options before the appointment of Ange Postecoglou last summer.

The 45-year-old held ‘very positive’ initial talks with Liverpool this week, according to Fabrizio Romano, and is open to leaving Rotterdam for the Reds this summer.

However, there is no release clause in Slot’s contract at De Kuip and Liverpool would need to agree a compensation package with the Dutch side.
