Arsenal set to revive interest in Everton midfielder

Arsenal are set to revive their interest in signing Everton midfielder Amadou Onana in the summer transfer window, though could face competition from Bayern Munich and Newcastle.

Mikel Arteta’s side have offered Jorginho a contract extension in North London but remain keen to reinforce their engine room at the end of the campaign.

Thomas Partey’s fitness problems and Mohamed Elneny’s expected exit leave room for additions and Onana features highly on the club’s radar.

The Belgium international made a big impression after arriving at Everton in a £32m deal from Lille in 2022, with several Premier League rivals expressing interest in Onana during last summer’s transfer window.

Last season, Onana ranked ninth in the Premier League for percentage of dribblers tackled (71.9%) and this season is sixth among all players for aerial duels won (73.4%). Arsenal have improved the physicality of their side in recent transfer windows and Onana fits the mould as a powerful and mobile presence in midfield.

Everton held onto the services of the 22-year-old last summer, though the club’s ongoing financial uncertainty could lead to a sale this summer.

Football Transfers are reporting that Arsenal, Bayern and Newcastle are all looking at the box-to-box star, who could cost interested clubs in the region of £60m. The Toffees will demand a significant profit is made on their initial investment for a player of huge potential.
