Manchester United ‘exploring’ Martial exchange in pursuit of Harry Kane

Manchester United are ‘exploring’ the possibility of using Anthony Martial in part-exchange as the club look to secure a deal for Tottenham forward Harry Kane.

United want to sign a centre-forward this summer and are interested in a deal to sign the England captain, who expressed a desire to leave Spurs – amid interest from Manchester City – last summer in search of elusive silverware.

Spurs value Kane – who will turn 29 in July and have two years remaining on his deal this summer – in excess of £100m, a valuation deemed as ‘problematic’ in the Red Devils’ pursuit of the forward.

ESPN are reporting that United are looking into the possibility of using Anthony Martial in exchange, with the France international deemed surplus to requirements and keen to leave Old Trafford.

Martial signed for Sevilla on loan during the January transfer window, but the Spanish side are not understood to be interested in pursuing a permanent deal.

Tottenham have expressed a past interest in signing Martial, though the 26-year-old’s preference is believed to be a move to Spain or Italy.

He has scored just once in eight appearances since moving to Sevilla and has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford over the past 18 months, having been named as the club’s Player of the Season in 2019/20.

United are targeting a centre-forward with uncertainty surrounding the futures of Martial and Cristiano Ronaldo, whilst Edinson Cavani will leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Ronaldo has reportedly not made a decision on his future despite being contracted for a further season, with his decision set to hinge on the Red Devils’ managerial appointment and potential qualification for the Champions League.
