Cucurella hands in transfer request at Brighton

Marc Cucurella has handed in a transfer request at Brighton as the full-back looks to force a move to Manchester City.

City saw an opening offer of £30m rejected for Cucurella earlier in the window, with Pep Guardiola keen on a deal for the defender as he looks to improve his options at left-back.

The 24-year-old enjoyed an excellent debut campaign with the Seagulls in 2021/22, earning the club’s Players’ Player of the Season and Player of the Season awards after arriving from Getafe last summer.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Cucurella has now submitted a transfer request at Brighton, in the hope the club will sanction his sale to the Premier League champions.

Brighton are believed to value Cucurella in the region of £50m and whilst talks remain ongoing between the two clubs, there is a significant gap between their respective valuations.

Cucurella – who has earned one cap for Spain at international level – has four years remaining on his contract at the Amex Stadium and Graham Potter’s side are under no pressure to sell.

Cucurella could become City’s fourth signing of the summer should a deal be agreed, following the completed captures of Erling Haaland, Kalvin Phillips and Stefan Ortega.

Guardiola is believed to be considering alternatives should progress not be made however, with Benfica’s Alex Grimaldo and Stuttgart’s Borna Sosa among those linked with the Etihad.
