Chelsea reach agreement over Malo Gusto signing

Chelsea’s spending spree under Todd Boehly shows no sign of abating after they have agreed terms on yet another transfer.

The new Chelsea owner splashed record sums of around £270 million in the summer following his £4.5 billion takeover of the Stamford Bridge club, and has followed that up with a further £190m in the January window.

Having signed the likes of Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella in the summer, the Blues have since added Benoit Badiashile, David Datro Fofana, Joao Felix, Andrey Santos, Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke to their ranks this month.

However, the Blues’ spending this season now looks set to come close to the half a billion pound mark after they agreed a €30 million (£26m) deal with Lyon for young right-back, Malo Gusto.

Lyon had been keen to keep the 19-year-old, but according to Fabrizio Romano, they have now struck a deal with the Premier League club that will see Gusto remain at the Ligue 1 side until the end of the season on loan.

Chelsea are in need of competition and cover at right back with Reece James having suffered a number of injuries in recent months, with veteran Cesar Azpilicueta seemingly no longer suited to operating in the wing back role.

Romano says that Gusto is due to have a medical on Saturday before finalising the deal, and will join up with his new teammates in the summer, including Christopher Nkunku, who has also agreed to move to the west London club at the end of the campaign.
