Barcelona linked with signing Man City’s Alvarez

Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez.

Manchester City won the race to land Alvarez’s signature just over 12 months ago, signing the River Plate goalscorer on a five-and-a-half-year deal before the player finally joined up with Pep Guardiola’s side in the summer.

Alvarez – who scored the opener in Man City’s 4-1 win over Bournemouth – had netted 54 goals in 122 games for the Argentine giants to attract the attentions of Europe’s biggest clubs, and has since gone on to net 10 in his 30 outings for City.

The 23-year-old has, however, had to play second-fiddle to Norwegian goal machine Erling Haaland this season, starting just six Premier League games, and according to reports in Spain, he could be a target for Barcelona.

According to Sport, Alvarez’s camp are ‘concerned’ and ‘could seek solutions for the future’, mentioning a potential loan move to Barcelona as an option.

They report that the relationship between the two clubs is ‘magnificent’, with the club’s hierarchy’s said to have met earlier this week while Barcelona were in Manchester for their Europa League playoff defeat to Manchester United.

Barcelona’s financial issues have been well documented, and the report says a loan move for the World Cup winner would ‘suit all parties’.

Despite making 30 outings for City, the report says that Alvarez ‘thought he would have more opportunities’ despite the stiff competition for places in the Blues’ attacking positions.
