Liverpool to trigger Szoboszlai release clause

Dominik Szoboszlai is set to become Liverpool’s second signing of the summer.

Having been regular title challengers for several seasons, Liverpool endured a season of struggle last time out, finishing fifth in the Premier League and outside of the much coveted Champions League places.

The Reds’ midfield was heavily criticised for the club’s shortcomings last term, though Jurgen Klopp has already moved to improve his side in the middle of the park with the signing of World Cup winner, Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton.

Despite the arrival of the Argentine, the Merseyside outfit have also been linked with a move for RB Leipzig’s Dominik Szoboszlai, and according to Fabrizio Romano, they have now informed the Bundesliga side that they will trigger his €70 million (£60m) release clause, which is due to expire today.

The Hungarian has enjoyed a fine season for Leipzig, scoring 10 goals and providing 13 assists in 46 appearances across all competitions.

It is reported that the highly-rated 22-year-old – who had also attracted the attention of Newcastle – has already agreed personal terms with Liverpool, with a medical set to be completed ‘soon’.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are set to allow Fabio Carvalho to sign on loan for Leipzig ahead of the coming campaign, with the 20-year-old have undergone a medical with the German side on Thursday. That deal is not related to the club’s move for Szoboszlai and will not include an option to buy.
