Leicester midfielder an option for Liverpool in midfielder search

Liverpool could turn their attention to Leicester midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, having been ‘put off’ by Crystal Palace’s valuation of Cheick Doucouré.

Jurgen Klopp is exploring whether his side can bring in an additional defensive midfielder before the deadline and the Reds are understood to be considering a potential move for Ndidi.

The Nigeria international has been linked with leaving Leicester after the club’s relegation from the Premier League, with Bayern Munich and Nottingham Forest having also weighed up an approach.

Ndidi ranked in the top four players in the Premier League for tackles won in four consecutive campaigns between 2017/18 and 2020/21, but saw his performances decline as the Foxes were relegated from the top flight last season.

According to the Independent, Liverpool could look to sign the 26-year-old in a cut-price deal as the Reds search for a midfield anchor, having been reluctant to meet Crystal Palace’s £70m valuation for Doucouré.

Liverpool secured a deal to sign Wataru Endo from Stuttgart earlier in the window, but are keen to bring in another defensive midfielder before Friday’s transfer deadline.
