Colwill calls England call-up a ‘dream come true’

Levi Colwill has called his England call-up a ‘dream come true’ after being included in the senior squad for the first time this month.

Colwill is part of Gareth Southgate’s squad for this month’s fixtures with Ukraine and Scotland, following a strong start to the season at Chelsea.

The 20-year-old has started all four of Chelsea’s Premier League games after returning from a successful loan spell at Brighton last season.

Colwill said his England inclusion has capped an ‘amazing year’ for the centre-back, who is hoping to earn a regular role with club and country.

“It has been an amazing year,” Colwill said, as per Sky Sports.

“There have been a lot of ups and still been downs, and a load of stuff that I have had to overcome. But it’s all part of my career and you’re going to get that.

“A hundred per cent it’s all worth it in the end. You’ve got to keep working hard, that’s what I have done so far but now it’s about keeping going.”

Colwill was invited to train with the England squad previously after impressing with the u-21 side, with the defender having formed part of the team that won the u-21 European Championship during the summer.

Colwill said he relished that experience in the senior set-up and has called his first proper inclusion a dream come true.

“Coming and training in June was a big blessing,” he added. “I enjoyed it so much and then obviously getting formally called up now is amazing.

“When I got the text I called dad straight away. I think he was getting emotional, to be honest. Dream come true.

“Everyone was so welcoming and it made a big difference for me. Now I have settled in a bit, I am ready to kick on and hopefully prepare for the upcoming week.”
