Klopp confirms Alisson absence for Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Alisson will miss Liverpool’s fixture with LASK in the Europa League tomorrow after picking up an injury at the weekend.

Alisson went down injured in the closing stages of the 1-1 draw at Manchester City in the Premier League, with the goalkeeper showing signs of discomfort in his hamstring before playing out the final seconds of the game.

Klopp has confirmed the Brazilian is unable to feature against LASK at Anfield and the 31-year-old is facing a minimum of a couple of weeks on the sidelines. The German revealed that Diogo Jota is also out and the latter’s absence is expected to be even longer than Alisson’s.

“Both are out. With Alisson it is a bit lesser so we will have to see,” Klopp said at his pre-match press conference.

“He’s not going to play tomorrow or on Sunday, probably not the week after, then he could be kind of OK, but Diogo will take a little bit longer. We don’t know exactly how long but it is a bit more serious.”

Caoimhin Kelleher has featured for Liverpool in European competition this season and Klopp said that Alisson’s absence is a chance for the Irish goalkeeper to impress.

“He would have played anyway and deserves his opportunity to get a few more games and hopefully he can show his full potential.”
